CPD @ Scholars Weekend '19 — Course B: Exploring Commercial Dance

An introduction to Commercial Dance including performance, creativity and choreography and the different styles needed for training dancers of today.

Join us for our first ever Commercial Dance CPD workshop!

Commercial dance refers to dance which is done in a commercial setting including concerts, live shows, music videos, movies, industrials and, obviously, commercials. Commercial dance draws inspiration from and incorporates many different genres from urban-based styles such as hip hop, street and breakdancing to more traditional styles such as ballet and ballroom.

Lucie Talbot, dancer, choreographer, teacher and judge, will introduce you to key foundations in hip hop and street dance and demonstrate how to use these foundations to create a small choreographed sequence. Together you will explore ways to teach tricks and techniques widely used in commercial dance including breakdance tricks and freezes. You’ll complete the day learning a choreographed routine which is influenced by many styles using choreographic devices to create a show-stopping group routine.

Commercial dance is rapidly gaining in popularity. This is a fantastic opportunity learn and be inspired by this diverse and dynamic dance genre.
