About the event
Teachers, are you already in business, wanting to expand, planning to start your own business? Don’t know how to write a Business Plan or Case? Contemplating a partnership, considering expanding, wanting to sell? Don’t know how to value your business? Engaging volunteers- is this different from employees? Do I need a contract or terms and conditions?
If you're asking yourselves these questions, this online Dance Matters! presentation is for you!
The presentation will last about 1 ½ hours and the content of the presentation and its principles can be applied to whichever country you might work or run a business in. Covering three topics, chosen from a member’s survey, there will also be time set aside for a Q & A at the end.
Topics:
An approach to preparing a Business Plan or Case
- who, what, and why
Methods of valuing a Dance Business
- buying or selling
Engaging volunteers
- general principals
Q&A
Learning outcomes:
An understanding of the contents of a Business Plan or Case, why you might need one, what you should include, and who it is aimed at
An exploration of the financial tools available for business and annual plans- budgets, cash flow, breakeven and other essentials
An introduction to the methods of valuing a school, whether buying, selling or raising money
An introduction to employing volunteers
The learning outcomes and practical examples are intended to provide a general overview and a pointer in the right direction. As all businesses differ, attendees are strongly encouraged to seek the services of an appropriate professional person before making any decisions.
The presentation is given by Richard Thom, a trustee of bbodance, Frederick Ashton Foundation and the Cecchetti Society Trust. He is a former Director of Finance at the RAD between 1988 – 2015 who delivered initial and continuing professional development learning to students, teachers and members through business courses, lectures and conferences during this time.
