As you may be aware, from September 2016, teachers who would like to hold Registered Teacher status with bbodance (RT bbodance) will need to have a Level 5 teaching qualification and commit to attaining 18 hours of CPD annually. We believe that these requirements will position our teachers as highly skilled professionals who will lead the industry and develop best practice in dance education and training.

There is no single model or framework for dance teaching qualifications in the UK, on the contrary, the situation has always been complex. For example, the requirement for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) used to be a Level 5 qualification (Diploma) but is now Level 6. A Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) can be either Level 6 or 7 or a combination of both. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) can be achieved through a PGCE but there are other routes.

In making Level 5 our ‘baseline’ requirement, we are aware that many teachers do not have formal teaching qualifications or do not know the level of the qualification/s they have. There are also a number of teachers who have a Level 4 bbodance teaching qualification and want to upgrade. In all cases, we have the means to help you assess your current qualifications and plan a way forward.
